The Umbria Jazz Festival takes place every year in the second or third week of July. It was launched in 1973, and is today one of the most important jazz festivals in Europe.

Throughout the city, you can visit a vast number of other free concerts, on the open air stage in front of the cathedral or in the Giardini Carducci park.

Of course there is also a typical New Orleans Marching Band, playing in the picturesque streets of Perugia.

At the Teatro Morlacchi you can listen to "chamber jazz" with quartets and solo pianists.

And if you're still awake late at night, you can round off the day with a glass of wine and live music in one of the many bars and hotel lounges.

The concerts with the stars take place in the Arena Santa Giuliana, a sport stadium on the outskirts of the old town. The prices of the tickets are - compared to other events of this kind - more than affordable (from EUR 23).

The festival program at the Arena starts on Sat July 13, 2018 with an extraordinary birthday celebration:
Quincy Jones turns 85 and celebrates on stage with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Patti Austin, John Clayton and many others.

Brazil will be guest at the Festival with Gilberto Gil on July 14, 2018 and Caetano Veloso together with Stefano Bollani on July 15, 2018.

There will be an excursion into the world of trip-hop with Massive Attack from Bristol on July 16, 2018.

The Chainsmokers, a Future Bass Duo from New York, winners of countless awards such as the Grammy in 2017, will surely attract a young audience on July 17, 2018.

Somi, a young singer representing New African Jazz will be on stage on July 18, 2018.

With David Byrne (ex-frontman of the Talking Heads) the festival has invited one of the icons of pop history for the evening of July 20, 2018.

Mario Biondi will give a taste of "Jazz made in Italy" on July 21, 2018.

But of course classical jazz has its place too:
Pat Meteheny and the Kyle Eastwood Quintet on July 19, 2018 and Gregory Porter with his hommage to Nat King Cole on July 22, 2018.
