Umbria Jazz Festival July 12 to 21, 2019
The Umbria Jazz Festival takes place every year in the second or third week of July. It was launched in 1973, and is today one of the most important jazz festivals in Europe.
Throughout the city, you can visit a vast number of other free concerts, on the open air stage in front of the cathedral or in the Giardini Carducci park.
Of course there is also a typical New Orleans Marching Band, playing in the picturesque streets of Perugia.
At the Teatro Morlacchi you can listen to "chamber jazz" with quartets and solo pianists.
And if you're still awake late at night, you can round off the day with a glass of wine and live music in one of the many bars and hotel lounges.
The concerts with the stars take place in the Arena Santa Giuliana, a sport stadium on the outskirts of the old town. The prices of the tickets are - compared to other events of this kind - more than affordable (from EUR 23).
On Saturday July 13, 2019 the jazz singer Diana Krall presents a special guest: Joe Lovano.
On Sunday July 14, 2019 the singer-songwriter Paolo Conte celebrates fifty years of "Azzurro", the secret hymn of Italy. Composed in 1969, this song sung by Adriano Celentano became a world hit.
On Monday, July 15, 2019, a legend of funk jazz will be performing: George Benson
On Tuesday, July 16, 2019 the jazz pianist Chick Corea meets the Cameroonian bassist and singer Richard Bona.
Nostalgics can reminisce on Wednesday July 17, 2019 with Nick Mason (drummer of Pink Floyd) and on Thursday July 18, 2019 with King Crimson.
The younger crowd will surely have fun on Friday July 19, 2019 with Snarky Puppy (Fusion / Jazzrock, Grammy Award winner 2017) and Kamasi Washington (Jazz Saxophonist) and on Saturday July 20, 2019 with Thom Yorke ( Radiohead).
The grand finale will be on Sunday July 21, 2019, with singer and rapper Lauryn Hill, also known from the movie SisterAct2
