The Trasimeno Music Festival will be held for the 13th time in 2017, founded and managed by the world-famous Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt.
The castle of the Maltese knights at Magione, the Abbey of San Pietro, the Teatro Morlacchi and the Galleria Nazionale in Perugia   form an impressive backdrop for evening concerts of classical music with internationally renowned artists and young musicians. In the domestic and foreign press the festival is already described as "one of the most prestigious festivals in Europe" and the "small big festival". This year there will be concerts  with Angela Hewitt (piano), Anne Sofie von Otter (Mezzosopran) with the Brooklyn Rider String Quartet and the   Zurich Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Sir Roger Norrington.

The festival program 2017 starts quite unusual with an excursion into the world of elektro music: "Kraftwerk" will show a multimedial Gesamtkunstwerk of music and performance.
Also on the second evening there is a melange of jazz, soul, hiphop, rock and pop with Jamie Cullum.

But of course classical jazz has its place too: a highlight will surely be the evening with Wayne Shorter, the great saxophonist from the era of "Modern Jazz". With his quartet and the chamber orchestra of Perugia, he will perform one of his own "classical" compositions.

Other artists include Dee Dee Bridgewater with her Memphis Ladies, Brian Wilson (the creative head of the Beach Boys), Enrico Rava and the Hiromi Duet.

A "Brazilian Night" with Egberto Gismonti, Stefano Bollani and the Hamilton de Holanda Trio will close the festival.

The Umbria Jazz Festival takes place every year in the second week of July. It was launched in 1973, and is today one of the most important jazz festivals in Europe.

The concerts with the stars take place in the Arena Santa Giuliana, a sport stadium on the outskirts of the old town. The prices of the tickets are - compared to other events of this kind - more than affordable (from EUR 25).

Throughout the city, you can also visit a vast number of other free concerts, on the open air stage in front of the cathedral or in the Giardini Carducci park.

Of course there is also a typical New Orleans Marching Band, playing in the picturesque streets of Perugia.

And if you're still awake late at night, you can round off the day with a glass of wine and live music in one of the many bars and hotel lounges.
