Carolina del Rivero & Donato Juarez

Carolina del Rivero started dancing at the age of 6, and throughout her career she has practiced different dancing techniques. She studied ballet at the world-famous Teatro Colon (the most renowned opera house in Latin America) and later modern dance on at the famous "Taller de Danza Contemporanea del Teatro San Martin". She discovered the tango in 1995, and since the year 2000 Carolina travels around the world giving workshops and exhibitions. She took part as a master teacher and dancer in the "Congreso Internacional de Tango Argentino" (C.I.T.A) -the world largest annual tango event that takes place in Buenos Aires every March-, from 2001 until 2008.
Applying all her artistic knowledge from other dances, she brings to tango, style and elegance, as well as a profound understanding of the technique and dynamic of the dance, and also of the woman's role in it. She is one of the most renowned master teachers and performers in the world of Argentine Tango.

Donato Juarez is one of the most talented of the new generation of tango dancers in Argentina. Musical, elegant, precise, driven, Donato teaches tango as he dances it: with energy, passion and sensitivity. From his hometown of Mar del Plata in Argentina, he has been part of a group of enthusiastic young dancers that has continued to tirelessly explore the intricacies of this dance. He has studied with many renowned teachers who were quick to notice his impressive technical skills. Donato works with many distinguished partners all over the globe, including Cecilia Gonzalez, Carolina del Rivero and Lucia Mazer.
Donato has been invited to international tango festivals in the United States, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Europe (Italy, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Greece, Switzerland, Finland), and Mexico and has performed in many theaters in Argentina. Brigitta Winkler

Brigitta Winkler divides her time between New York and Berlin, where she studied ballet and modern dance for many years. In 1980, her life changed when she discovered Argentine tango. She then spent some years in Paris studying with Virulazo, a star of Tango Argentino. At that time she met Coco Orlando Diaz, and they began performing together at Les Trottoirs de Buenos Aires in Paris. In 1986, they took their own show to Montreal and Toronto. Brigitta travelled often to Buenos Aires to study with such noted dancers as Juan Carlos Copes, Antonio Todaro, Pepito, Gustavo Naveira, and Eduardo Arquimbau.

In 1987 she opened Tanzart with her partner Angelika Fischer, where she hosted Arquimbau's visits to Berlin. In 1994 Brigitta choreographed and danced in Tango Marathon in the Theaterhaus Stuttgart and Tango Vision in the Podewil Berlin. She incorporates into her interpretation of tango Body-Mind Centering, which she studied in a four-year program with Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen.

Alejandra Mantinan & Gregorio Garrido

Tango rapido. Highly energetic yet sensual.

Alejandra Mantinan is synonymous to power, speed and elegance.
Alejandra Mantiñán is a musical, technical and elegant dancer, she shines with her own light each time she gets up on a stage or in a Milonga. She is one of the teachers most in demand worldwide, yet she stays away from the blaze of vanities tango usually turns into. National dance teacher at the age of 18, she studied classic and contemporary dance, and also physiology before devoting herself exclusively to tango 16 years ago. As the assistant of Antonio Todaro, she spent years delving into the secrets of the dance of Buenos Aires. She danced for 14 years with Gustavo Russo, with whom she participated in the Tango Pasión show and performed with the orchestras of Osvaldo Pugliese, Horacio Salgán, Mariano Mores and José Basso.
When teaching she draws on simple things: how does a dog or cat move, how do a gorilla and a man stand up, what is it that we do when we dry our feet in the bathroom so that we don't fall, etc.  She likes to show why something works and why it would not work in any other way. "It seems to me that when one embraces someone one has to have the capacity to say a lot of things without speaking. " (From an interview with Carlos Bevilacqua for El Tangauta)

Alejandra will teach this class at La Rogaia together with Gregorio Garrido who began dancing tango early in his teen ages in Santiago, Chile. Later on he continuied with various Argentinean teachers in Buenos Aires. His way of dancing remarks itself with a unique sense of dynamics, understanding of rhythm, agility and presence.

Wolfgang Sandt

Two hearts beat in Wolfgang's breast, and it is difficult to say, whether his bigger passion is sculpture or tango. In any case he is an excellent teacher, who imparts to his students with patience, artistic creativity and a lot of humour the joy for those things, that fill him with enthusiasm. Wolfgang has been dancing tango since 1994. Among his teachers are Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Fabian Salas and Carolina del Rivero, Mariano"Chicho" Frumboli and Eugenia Parilla, Kely and Facundo Posadas, Amira Campora, Metin Yazir, Graciela Gonzalez, Nestor Ray, Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau, Yvonne Meissner and Eduardo Aquirre, Ruben Terbalca and many others. For him it is important not to teach figures and steps, but to impart to his students the ability to recognize the structure of the dance and its different elements, thus giving them the ability to invent playfully their own, always new "figures". Consequence of this is a concept for a "dialogue of the dancers ", where there are (almost) no "wrong steps". This is certainly an excellent presupposition to have lots of joy with Argentine tango even as a beginner.

Joseba Pagola & Bakartxo Arabaolaza

Joseba & Bakartxo come from San Sebastián (Basque country) where they have started a wave of Tango enthusiasm. They have been also teaching in Spain, France and Germany. Joseba and Bakartxo are focussing on the flow of energy within the couple, in close and in open embrace. They dance with every fibre of their body. Based on their training with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Chicho Frumboli and Pablo Villarraza and Dana Frigoli they have created a style of their own: their Tango Nuevo is soft, lascivious and dynamic. And they love traditional music. How well this goes together they showed in "De Recuerdos y Tango" (their show "Of Memories and Tango"). They are inspired by the refined subtlety and joyous swing of old Tango music. In their classes they work very intensely with each individual participant and know how to explain even complex sequences of movements.

Steve & Debbie Morrall

Steve and Debbie Morrall are delighted to return to La Rogaia for the fourth year running to teach Argentine tango. In 2009 the course is aimed at dancers who want to find ways of moving simply with real musical signficance. You will be working with a dance teacher who is also a tango musician. Steve will have his bandoneon with him to assist his teaching. Quite simply, Steve and Debbie will
help you dance 'with your ears'.

Tango dancing is all about feeling and understanding the music. Steve uses his in-depth knowledge as a musican and as an acclaimed  teacher, in a fun and engaging way to help dancers interact creatively with the music. Through the use of games, imagery, simple explanations in everyday
language and lots of supervised dance time, Steve and Debbie will take you on a journey of musical exploration of tango, vals and milonga.  With 18 hours of lessons and time to practice and swap ideas about the dance, this week will give your tango musicality a real boost and give you time to get new concepts from your head to your feet.

Laura Priori & Andreas von Maxen

Laura originally from Brescia, Italy, has been living in Berlin for 25 years. She has started with Argentine Tango 13 years ago with Brigitte Winkler. She has partnered for several years "El Pajaro" Diego Riemer and organized a Milonga together with him. During her regular stays at Buenos Aires she was trained by Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Marianna Flores and Eduardo Capussi, Fernando Galera and Vilma Vega, Analia Vega and Marcelo Varela and Chicho and Lucia.

Andreas got into Argentine Tango 13 years ago. He has taught for several years in Bremen (Northern Germany) together with Thomas and Catalina and was mainly influenced by Fernando and Vilma, Nancy and Damian and Analia and Marcelo.

Laura and Andreas originally preferred the Milonguero-Style in close embrace. In the past years however they started to adopt elements of Tango Nuevo and to experiment with the open embrace. It is their aim to interpret the unique character of Tango music also in the “Nuevo Estilo”. In their lessons they emphasize on musicality, communication within the couple, playful movements. For preparation they also integrate body exercises with elements from Yoga and Feldenkrais.

Beginners to intermediate workshop
You already  have attended  one or more Tango Argentino classes and visit regularly practicas, milongas and tango balls.  Maybe some of the situations described below sound familiar to you?

·    You have already learned by heart a lot of  fancy "figures" but every   time you want to dance them on the dancefloor somebody gets in your way.
·    You succeed to dance fairly well with your regular dance partner but the moment you dance with someone else nothing seems to work out anymore.
·    You are asking yourself often whether the music played is Tango, Milonga or Tango Valtz.
·    When Milonga or Tango Valtz are played you leave the dance floor because you believe that this is still too difficult for you.
·    You are annoyed because your partner never dances what you "lead".
·    You are annoyed because your partner only drags you through the ballroom and you don ´t understand what he wants.
·    You want to know why some of the "figures" you have learned don´t work out so well.
·    You are dancing already fairly well but want to improve your understanding of the music .

Then our beginners to intermediate workshop is exactly right for you !

In this workshop we show you
·    how you can improve your understanding of the music and how you can play with the rythm
·    how you avoid unpleasant collisions with other couples (and what you  to do if it happens)
·    how you still can dance on the crowded dancefloor
·    how  you can dance Tango Valtz and Milonga
·    how you get a better understanding of the "figures" which still don´t work so well and in consequence how you can dance them right
·    how you can understand different possibilities in the dance and how you can use this knowledge to develop spontaneously your own "figures"
·    how you can dance even more elegant
·    how  you can improve your understanding for your partner while you dance
·    In short how you will have even more fun dancing Tango

Celine Ruiz & Damian Rosenthal

Celine and Damian are a young and very energetic Argentinean/French tango couple. They dance in 2 tango companies: "Argentina" and "All That Tango" of Sebastian Arce in Paris and were very much inspirated by Chicho Frumboli and Fabian Salas but have now developped a completely unique style that combines Tango with modern dance. They focus on body expression, individual dancing and meeting each other as a couple in the dance. They are playing with the music, and their changes between slowing down and accelleration are striking and fascinating.
Their classes are mostly focused on improvisation, musicality, changes in distance in the dance, leading and dissociation. Spontaneity, pleasure and a natural way of moving in the dance are very basic. They like to give you the technical skills to develop more and more your own creativity and musical expression.

Walter & MariLynne Kane

Walter and MariLynne from Harriman, NY, first met each other on the dance floor as teenagers, and have been dancing together ever since. When they crossed paths with Argentine Tango in 1997, it was love at first step. Since then, they have concentrated on that form, studying with Argentine masters Danel & Maria Bastone, Facundo & Kely Posadas, Alberto Paz & Valorie Hart and Gustavo Naveira & Giselle Anne. In January 2000, they opened their studio, El Rincón de Los Tangringos, where they have conducted group and private classes on a continuing, weekly schedule, and have run milongas regularly at multiple locations to provide social dance venues for their students to populate. They also teach at other dance studios in New York state and were instrumental in forming Hudson Valley Tango, dedicated to fostering the growth and expansion of tango in this multi-county region. They acquired much of their primary education in the dance and in the culture during their annual stays in Buenos Aires, living and dancing among the Porteños, learning from their example and earning their friendship and respect. These "lessons of the milongas" have helped define their instructional qualities as well. Their dancing is extemporaneous, classical and subtle. Walter & MariLynne are known for their elegance and clean execution. They teach the tango of the Buenos Aires milongas, the tango that carries the sentimiento, the emotional connection between the partners and with the music.

Walter & MariLynne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at La Rogaia in 2002 - and everyone was enchanted by their heartfelt and very personal way of dancing which also mirrors their experience in a life long partnership. We are very happy that they will return to La Rogaia to share this special experience with us !

Christian "El Duende" & Helga Seyb

Helga and Christian Seyb  dance and teach close-embrace "Tango de Salón", like it is danced since the golden days of Tango in Buenos Aires. The harmony of the couple, the elegance of walking, a good embrace and musicality are much more important, than spectacular effects. Their dance is inspired by the music and is improvised and not a predefined choreography, which makes each dance a unique experience. Beside Tango, they also dance "Tango Vals" and "Milonga con Traspié" in their particular way, distiguished by rhythmical varieties in a very small space. For Helga und Christian, Tango is a language - to dance Tango means, to communicate very sensitivly with the partner. The Tango basics they teach in their classes and workshops are not only interesting for Tango beginners, but also for the far advanced dancer. They do not teach rigid figures to memorize, but very small elements and the structure of Tango. Through intensiv bodywork and communications excersises, they get their students to improvise from the very beginning and to develop their own ways to express the dance. In short: They teach the vocabulary and the grammar - the story has to be written by the student himself.
Helga und Christian got their Tango education in Buenos Aires from the argentinian top couple Mario Bournissen und Eugenia Martínez. This is one of the reasons why improvisation, rhythmics as well as leading and following techniques are very strong points of their teaching.
