Where to eat out in Florence

"La Beppa Fioraia"

La Beppa Fioraia
La Beppa Fioraia

A garden restaurant in the middle of the city, simply great!

It is located below the Piazzale Michelangelo, somewhat hidden and therefore not easy to find for tourists. The Fiorentines meet here on Sundays for family gatherings or in the evenings with friends for a sumptuous meal.
We celebrated a family reunion a few years ago at this restaurant, a great success with everyone.
Try the huge mixed starter platters ("Gran Taglieri"), one of which is big enough for two persons.

"La Burrasca"

Bistecca Fiorentina at Trattoria "La Burrasca" in Florence

If you want to eat a real Bistecca Fiorentina, this is the right place! For a bistecca the minimum weight is 1 kg of the best meat per person.  Therefore this is not for a tiny appetite. But there is also solid homemade pasta with delicious sauces. The simple rustic ambience is particularly appreciated by locals and therefore La Burrasca - although in the middle of the center - is not a tourist trap.

"Trattoria Baldini"

Here you will get traditional Fiorentine cuisine.

The place does not look particularly spectacular from the outside and the interior is also somewhat old-fashioned and anything but "chic".

Locals order homemade pasta here, of course Bistecca or special dishes typical for Florence: intestines such as Lampredotto (tripe) or sheeps brain.

"Nerbone"

"Nerbone" at the Mercato Centrale, Florence

If you are hungry after a sightseeing tour around the cathedral, you can take a rest in the old market hall at "Nerbone", with bean soup, with tender roast beef with "salsa verde", and with artichoke hearts with fresh mint. For the more courageous ones there are also pork knuckles and tripe (lampredotto).

Nerbone is a rustic place and you will sit at simple, time worn marble tables, up close to your evenly hungry neighbors. "Nerbone" is an "insider tip"  but this has spread among the tourists. Nevertheless the stall owners of the market and the neighborhood people come here to have their traditional lunch. And so you will see the edged faces as ever, with a plate of thick soup and a glass of red wine ...

Some Non-Italian cuisine for a change?

Then we have a special recommendation: A Peruvian restaurant, which is a little outside of the historical city center. We recommend the excellent fish and seafood dishes and of course deep-fried platanos. And do not worry, guinea pigs are not on the menue!
The service of the tiny family restaurant is very friendly, the chef himself will proudly explain all the dishes to you.
